Once again not the prettiest game but full of drama and excitement (especially for the hoards of Tartan Army gathered on the touchline). Maybe a little too much excitement for Boss Hogg but congratulations on getting the job done. Again we were the better team and deserved the win, a telling comment in the pub was that up until recently it was a game we would have lost or drawn - something worth thinking about. I agree with that comment and think the best thing to come out of the game is that you have stopped playing as a group of individuals and have come together as a team capable of carving out a win even when the pressure is on and functional rather than pretty is required.

Highlights - The 3rd goal that put them to bed, great time to score! Barry’s flying one handed sublime save at 2 - 1 to keep them out (one for the camera’s I think). Bungle having defensively his best game. Alex doing what he does best and tying them in knots then tackling back, Steve N great defense and going on run after run taking defenders out wide and creating space. Shaggy being Shaggy and really causing them problems offensively and defensively and always being an option to relieve the pressure. Then of course Gary who played a blinder then obviously got board and taking a leaf out of Steve Nics defensive manual passed the ball to their striker, stood back and said there you go son fill your boots which he duly did.
Man of the Match - I’m having trouble choosing between Alex and Barry this week but I’ve decided that although Alex played a blinder and got 2 great goals I’ve got to give it to the Cat for keeping concentration and coming up with the goods when we really needed him. Well done. If he’d been in the pub he’d have got his bottle of fizzy.

We are top goal scorers in Div2 and joint top with Collindale Athletic Div 1 in all leagues. Really great performance from all the goal scorers. Especially Steve Nic who has already matched his 3 for the whole of last season and is in danger of passing the 5 he has scored since we started playing – keep em coming boys.

Since changing to 311 in the last 8 games we have made massive strides in the balance between offence and defense, we’ve scored 28 goals but only conceded 9! Comparing this to the 8 we conceded in the first 3 games shows a startling improvement.

In fact the goal difference average for the 8 games (excluding cup games) played in our 311 formation is 2.38 compared to the 1.45 for the season so far. We’ve only conceded more than 1 goal in 2 games and no more than 2 goals in any game so a big pat on the back to all for defensive duties but especially Gary and Barry. As a note we’ve only managed 1 clean sheet which is a shame but although the defense won’t agree I’d rather concede 1 if we keep scoring 4 but a couple of 4 nils would be nice.
