They put their 4th over the bar and RSP slotted home, “low and in the corner”, to win the match.
We thoroughly deserved to win this match even though we were not quite at our best. Certainly gives us confidence that we can compete should we be promoted.
Great to see Steve Pugh back in a Knight’s shirt.
"/>Both teams set up fairly defensively making it very difficult to find space in the opposition half. VRA left 1 man right up front on the edge of our box with the rest of the team sitting deep. They hit him often with long balls but he never looked like getting the better of Gary. They probably only had 2 or 3 clear chances in the whole game and Barry was equal to anything they threw at him.
Our passing was not quite as crisp and precise as we have come to expect be we were still much the better side. We had plenty of attempts on goal, Alex in particular worked himself into some great scoring positions but could not quite find the finish to win this game in normal time.
0-0 after extra time we went into a penalty shoot out. They put their first high and wide, Shaggy powered his in and we were 1-0 up. They scored their 2nd and Chris Howarth had his saved and it was 1-1. They scored their 3rd and Gary had to score to keep us in it, which he did, and additional penalty takers were required. They put their 4th over the bar and RSP slotted home, “low and in the corner”, to win the match.
