Match Report

We started off with a different formation for this game, with Chris H in attack in the absence of Chris M and Anthony filling in at the back. They are a young and fit side and they pushed forward from early on. Chris H broke down the left wing after a couple of minutes and held the ball up, before pulling it back across the box for Alex to finish neatly into the top corner. We went further ahead as Chris played it out to Steve Nic who's shot was blocked leaving an easy finish for Chris H. They pulled a goal back with a spectacular volley, before which the defence had prevented Fash from getting a clear opportunity.
A superb throughball by Gary left CHris 1 on 1 with the keeper who finished into the corner despite their keeper getting a foot to the ball. THey scored again just before half time to go in 3-2.
In the second half we switched around, with Steve P coming into midfield, Chris H playing at the back and Alex moving up. There were fewer chances in the second half, although we had the better of them near the end as they pushed for an equaliser.

Well what do you know we’re still top of the league but the big one is now.

Thoughts on the game against Fash. They were young, quick as expected and put us under pressure, their movement was good and they tried to use our disciplined formation against us by creating a number of 2 against 1 situations on the wings but Ant, Steve Nic and Gary for the most part coped admirably. I thought as a unit we performed well and I was sorry to sub you Ant as it was no reflection on the way you played it was only because they were starting to get free player in the midfield which was more dangerous and I felt Steve P combative instincts were better suited. The good points – we kept our shape well and looked offensively dangerous especially during the first 15mins and we shut them down completely in the 2nd half to close the game out and come away with a win. Trumpton playing back in the midfield and getting in his first full half of football since March. Bungle and Alex your early combinations and neat interplay caused them real problems and you took advantage of the situations you created by scoring 3 great footballing goals. At 2 2 this is another game that 8 weeks ago we might have drawn or lost so to say I’m chuffed is an understatement

Highlights – Alex’s first goal and then having to explain to Gary how he did it, Steve P getting stuck in, Alex’s one two with Steve P except Alex didn’t go leaving Steve pointing and mouthing like and embarrassed goldfish and last but not least the look on the Fash attackers face when Bungles reverse overhead defensive flick just nicked the ball out of his path leaving him totally bewildered (where’s it gone?).

Man of the match – Bungle – two goals, great interplay with Alex and sterling defensive contribution when moved to left back, well done & keep it up.
