Match Report

We started this game with 6 players due to absentees, so unfortunately we did not have the luxury of any subs, however in the first 10 minutes that did not effect the Knights in any way, as we were comfortable in possession with some good movement and the defence comprising of Ashley, Mike and George (after his long term injury) were all holding firm along with the ever consistent Ed.  There was also some good movement off the ball from Chris Mills and Steve Pugh, which resulted in the first goal of the evening when Steve Pugh collected the ball down the right wing to square it back to Chris Mills and after a good first shot was blocked, Chris managed to get a second shot in which put the Knights 1-0 up.  Even though Alderholt came back quite strongly after the goal, the Knights remained 1-0 up at half time. The stand in manager (Gary I need a wig Neild) gave a good half time talk to the team explaining that we needed to play further up the field and start marking man to man. However, in the 2nd half the players did not take heed of the advice from Gary and the marking at times from all was somewhat wanting, which allowed Alderholt lots of time on the ball and it resulted in 2 quick goals and suddenly the Knights were 2-1 down and staring at a second defeat on the trot.  However, there was still some grit left in the side and with 5 minutes left in the game, a quick one two between Steve Pugh and Chris Mills resulted in Steve Pugh hitting a rasping low drive in to the far left hand corner of the Alderholt goal and scoring to make it 2-2, GAME ON!  In the last 5 minutes, there was some tired legs out there due to having no subs and with George picking up a late injury also, suddenly we were very stretched all over the park and when one of their players picked the ball up half way into our half with less than a minute left there was a severe lack of people to close him down and unfortunately for the Knights, the strike was straight into the top corner and gave Ed no chance.  A shame that we didn't get a point which we deserved and we now need to win on Tues, COME ON YOU KNIGHTS!
