A hard-fought game with our arch-rivals Quasar Elite. We had 2 guest players this week; Paul and Neil. Neil had a difficult task leading the line against their very strong defence which has only had 5 goals against all season. The Knights found it difficult to alleviate the pressure because as soon as it was played upfield the ball came back again and we were frequently on the back foot. Paul and Chris in midfield had to work very hard to try to prevent them breaking through but Gary and Steve P were very strong at the back, making a 0-0 look quite likely for a long time. Barry had to make a couple of sharp saves although their keeper was rarely tested. Paul had just come back from a 6-week layoff through injury and found it difficult to keep up the pace in the second half, as most of us did.
With around 5 minutes to go with a 0-0 looking very likely one of their players squeezed through on the right and managed to poke a shot under Barry from a narrow angle. We pressed on and did have one very good chance to equalise, which Chris failed to convert. As we pressed on gaps naturally appeared at the back and they poached a second just before the whistle.
A draw would have been accepted by both sides by the end, but they probably just deserved the win.
