However, the constant Sarum Knights pressure told, when Steve Pugh collected the ball from Tim on the edge of our area and then hit an accurate long pass to Chris Mills at the oher end of the pitch and Chris allowed the ball to bounce once and then sublimely chipped the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. Steve Pugh should have made it 3-0 at the end, however the goalkeeper somehow deflected the ball wide with his leg and the chance was gone.
Overall, a solid display defensively, but we lacked movement going forward and we also needed to be more assured with our finishing and hence we will need to improve on these aspects for the very important game v AFC Gills next week if we are to get promoted.

Match Report
Overall a lethargic and disappointing display. We were very sluggish in the first 10 minutes of the 1st half with lots of passes going astray and the overall shape of the team seemed disjointed. The latter part of the half we managed to up the pace a bit, which resulted in a swift move between Chris Mills and Chris Howarth, with the latter providing a great strike from the left wing to make it 1-0. The defence was well organised by Gary for the rest of the half and we went into the interval 1-0 up.
"Boss Hogg" then slightly changed the shape of the team for the 2nd half by putting Steve Nic on for Clive and pushing Chris Mills up front and in addition to this, Chris Howarth was moved to left back and this formation proved to be more effective, as the shape was far better for the rest of the game. There was also a lot more effort put into the 2nd half and more chances were produced, as Steve Nic made some good runs down the right wing which resulted in one shot from him rebounding off the far post. Steve Pugh also tried to work some space for the team and managed this effectively in the far right hand corner to provide a good opportunity for Chris Howarth to run on to shoot drect at goal, however unfortunately his effort went just wide. A couple of other chances went begging with Chris Mills "skewing" a shot wide and Steve Pugh shooting over from close range.

I suppose it was inevitable that there would be an anti-climax following the 2 Quaser games. How ofetn do you see this, even in the Premier league, whereby a club win the hard games and lose relatively easy games. The performance overall was poor but the result was all important. Hopefully we've got it out of our system.
My view is that we should keep the shape and not tinker with the side for the last 2 games. Some very constructive and I'm pleased to say "open" comments down the pub. Next season we can experiment further, with a 2-1-2 formation being a possibility.
First sorry for being a bit touchy down the pub after but had just got some worring news aboout my sister, that said no excuse so apologies all round.
The game, Well done all for grinding out the result despite the managment. Congratulation to Bungle and Shaggy on 2 very well taken goals. We score the spectacular goals but need to work on the easy ones if we are to progress as a team. I think my trying to start with a 221 formation then changing it at the last minute confused things a bit which would explain the first 10 mins but Trumpton and Longballdi kept it all together and returning to our more familiar shape for the 2nd half settled everything down again. From the side lines the Tartan Army thought we looked more of a team in the 2nd half.
Chaseside drawing with the Ships Crew makes next week against Gills make or break for our season so I'll leave my mechano set in its box for the next couple games. Well Done all
We play more effectively against team who play more like us; ie a passing game. We struggle more against the 100mph physical teams who aren't necessarily great at football but close down and harry us. Promotion to the second division may mean we come across a greater number of these footballing teams, so we may end up doing well there.
Let's get there first though by beating Gills.
