Game of 2 halves again. We started off playing really well, passing and finding lots of spce. A nice lay-off from Gary allowed Chris H to score the first and Gary made it 2-0 soon after with a drilled shot. Chris H increased the lead further with a strike into the top right. They started pulling themselves together a bit, but Steve P managed to burst through the midlle and drive one in. They pulled back a goal just before half time with their only attack of that half.
After the break they pressed us a lot more and we had much less space. We lost shape again, but we did have a number of chances to increase the lead. They scored another goal and it was a little shaky for a while and Tim pulled off a number of sharp saves to reduce the BCF (butt-clench-factor) in the final minutes. We could and should have increased the lead but their goalie also made a number of good stops.
All in all a good result well deserved.

Formation 3-1-1

I have to say boys, myself included, we didn't look very fit out there on Tuesday....especially 2nd half. Undoubtedly, our own substitutions are unsettling. I think we should wait until half time then we can sort out more easily what should be happening with positions. At the back we need to be disciplined not only in defending but when we get the ball from Tim. We seemed to be to narrow making it harder to pass the ball ,particularly for Steve P in the middle. Width is key. This this would also allow Tim to pass more easily to Chris H and myself through the middle. Chris H and I need to be mobile and ideally I would like Chris to peel off wide in midfield ,I receive the ball and then we play from there, higher up the pitch.
Chris H and I also need to press the opposition defenders more tightly and be supported from midfield. This is especially true against the weaker teams. I reckon there are a couple more goals each game if we do this.
